Binding materials with multiple varieties, styles and high grades (Part 2)

bonding materials bonding materials are one of the main materials used in modern post press binding. The bonding materials used in this book can be divided into four categories: plants, animals, natural resins and synthetic materials. The early plant starch base has been basically eliminated and replaced by synthetic resins. At present, the use of bonding materials is: synthetic resins: 80%, animal bone glue accounts for 10%, rosin in plants and gelatin and egg glue in animals account for 10%. Among them, synthetic resin bonding materials have developed rapidly and have many varieties. Now the following kinds are commonly used

(1) polyvinyl acetate adhesive (PVAc)

an adhesive formed by polymerization of vinyl acetate monomer, which is a cold adhesive. It is mainly used for bonding paper, cardboard, cardboard, paper and fabric composite, etc

(2) polyvinyl alcohol adhesive (PVA)

White flocculent or powdered polymer thermoplastic adhesive. Its application scope is basically the same as that of polyvinyl acetate

(3) ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer hot melt adhesive (EVA) to form a foam structure

commonly known as EVA hot melt adhesive, is a hot-melt bonding material, and is also the main bonding material used in post press binding in China at present. The annual consumption is about 14000 tons, which is mainly used for the bonding and cover of paperback books. The hot melt adhesive can be used when it is heated and melted to a certain temperature. The higher the temperature is, the greater the fluidity is. Below the melting point, it turns into a solid. The glue temperature is strictly required during use. Only under the control of standard temperature and humidity can good bonding effect be obtained. It is a kind of adhesive suitable for modern production

(4) as early as 2002, Nokia introduced 8910 vinyl acetate ethylene lotion adhesive (VAE) with titanium alloy shell.

it is a high-strength cold water-soluble adhesive, milky white, which is a water dispersion system of vinyl acetate and ethylene copolymer, and can bind all kinds of paper, cardboard, paper board, etc. It can also be used for the bonding between paper and PVC. It is an ideal material for hardcover lining

(5) acrylate adhesive

a cold water-soluble material obtained from the polymerization of acrylate and styrene, which is called yield point or yield strength. It has strong viscosity and strength, and is mainly used for the bonding of paper with PVC and various films (such as BOPP film, PET film, etc.)

(6) polyurethane (PUR) adhesive

polyurethane is a new bonding material, which is divided into two types: cold water-soluble and hot-melt; Hot melt adhesive is mainly used for binding books and periodicals on the linkage production line, and it can also be used for film covering process. Compared with EVA hot-melt adhesive, PUR has many advantages, such as high viscosity, low dosage, good bonding effect, especially the good flexibility of the adhesive layer. The books and periodicals bonded with pur are easy to read and are not easy to drop pages and paste loosely. It is the development direction of bonding materials for books and periodicals and post press binding of this volume

now, some advanced countries have mostly used pur glue in book binding, especially in hardcover books and periodicals. China also has different rubber elongation of different materials, and a few manufacturers have used it on the paperback wireless binding linkage line, and the amount will gradually increase
